Microsoft Visual 6.0 C++?

I am starting classes with Computer Science, was just wondering if anyone know where I can get one for a good price or cheap??

Microsoft Visual 6.0 C++?
Do your classes require Microsoft's Visual C++? There are free alternatives which also combine a C++ compiler and IDE like Visual C++.

I would suggest Eclipse's IDE for C/C++ developers ( http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ )...I haven't actually used their C/C++ kit but I regularly use their Java IDE with great satisfaction.
Reply:Try your university book store. They sell student versions of software development tools for a fraction of what they cost.
Reply:You realize you can get a C++ compiler for free? Have you even Googled?

VC 6 is outdated. The latest version is 8, which has support for modern C++ standards (C++ 99). You can get a free version called Visual C++ Express.

GCC has always been free. You can get the Windows version for free as well. It's called MingW. I use MingW, but if your class requires Microsoft's compiler, use the C++ Express version.

Edit:

Also, an IDE is nice. But you still need a compiler! Which is what C++ Express or MingW (gcc) are.
Reply:with c++ 6.0 its quite old now but still very good if i was you id use a few books and do self taught since books cost about $20 so u can do quite a few and with the invent of fourum and planet source code if you run in to trouble some one can answer therefore u can do a computer science exam just for the paper to prove you can do it make sure u get one thats reconized and if i was you id do 1 with a local college
